Inkling

Wacom announced a new digital sketch pen product. The Inkling sketch pen aims to attenuate the friction of capturing a paper drawing into an editable computer file. There’s no tablet to slide a pen onto — just use a sheet of paper. If it works as advertised it may be what illustrators and designers have wanted for quite a while: the […]

Windows 8 UI demo (video)

A first look at the new Windows 8 user interface (video below). The Windows Phone 7 OS has some interesting stuff UI-wise, and I’m glad Microsoft is working to adapt it to a tablet environment. However, It’s amazing that Microsoft keeps insisting on using the taskbar and other “legacy” Windows UI for a tablet OS. It is clear in […]

It has a 7-inch 1024×600 LCD screen and some nice specs like a dual-core 1GHz CPU based on the Cortex A9 and 1 GB RAM. D8 opening session: Steve Jobs interview

D8 Conference started last night with a Steve Job’s interview conducted by Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. There were questions about the App Store incidents, the stolen prototype, the Flash issue. Jobs rarely attends to this kind of events — last time, in D5 (2007), he and Bill Gates got together for a conjoint interview [video]. The D: […]

The iPad situation — part II

After some thoughts on the iPad’s hardware design, it’s time to talk about the real strengths of Apple’s proposition and why it may be the lead in a silent revolution in the world of computing devices. It’s a long article, please bear with me. “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King.” ~ old adage credited to […]

The iPad situation — part I

Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer — that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.  » […]

Before and after

In just a few hours Apple will start its “Come see our latest creation” Event. Everybody (as I am) is expecting a tablet device. The Tablet is supposed to be what past tablet devices from other manufacturers haven’t been. I’m hoping for a device that brings print media to the digital distribution age. Something like a 2010 version of the […]
