Pocket is quite a departure from ‘Read it later’*. New visual identity, new website, new interface design, a promo video — it is more of a scrath-the-past-and-start-over kind of a thing. The dark interface gives way to a more fresh, bright, approach that understands core categories of online content viewing: articles, videos, images. That is a nice improvement as these new […]

Trying to Find All Them Boxes
Chris Pirillo’s father tries Windows 8 Consumer Preview. It’s difficult to understand a piece of software if there are no visual cues of essential navigation elements. Microsoft has going for them the fact that this is still a beta version, and if they’re paying attention, they’re still on time to do something about it. Apple’s (Mac) OS X Lion also […]
Better Typography for Android
So it seems the new Android OS version (‘ice cream sandwich’) is getting better typography. About time. The ‘before and after’ screenshots here also show new user interface design bits for Gmail, Email and Calendar widgets.
OS X Lion: Absolutely Nothing
My thoughts on the WWDC announcements have been postponed quite often due to other affairs, and, while writing had started, they never made it to the blog. Since OS X Lion is rumoured to be released this week, here’s another chance to present my take on Lion as shown at the WWDC Keynote. This article doesn’t try to […]
Mac OS X Lion Preview
Along with the new MacBook Pro launch, Apple also announced the availability of a Mac OS X Lion Preview for developers. On the official page there’s more info of what Mac OS X Lion will be. And a few more images and details on the interface (more here) are popping up on tech blogs. The “Spaces” features still seems to […]
Light Peak / Thunderbolt demo
What a great cable interface. It’s great that it allows daisy chain connections and bidirectional 10Gb/s. This is a winner and if the rumors pan out, tomorrow Apple will be the first to use it. In terms of features and with Intel’s support, I don’t think USB3 stands a chance. Check how Light peak / Thunderbolt works in this video.
Sony’s Watchamacallit
Gruber doesn’t get it. He thinks the unique device that comes in Sony’s Google TV product is a “Remote”. Geez. It’s not a remote, it’s a Watchamacallit. You know, a 21st-century homage to the blinking-lights-button-filled-structures featured behind actors on high-tech-inclined 70’s/80’s TV shows and Movies. That’s what it is — a beautiful watchamacallit. A remote… pfff. C’mon, does anyone […]
Apple TV reviews (video)
PCmag kickstarts* an expected series of reviews from several sources throughout the web of the new Apple TV. The new model seems to download videos really fast, and with nice picture quality, too. I guess the video technology used on the last Apple media event is being used for this. Check the video walkthrough below. *Update 1: […]
The BlackBerry Playbook
Research In Motion’s CEO Mike Lazaridis announced today a BlackBerry tablet, the Playbook, during the BlackBerry Developer Conference. It has a 7-inch 1024×600 LCD screen and some nice specs like a dual-core 1GHz CPU based on the Cortex A9 and 1 GB RAM. Bluetooth device-pairing with a BlackBerry phone is also one of the key features of the Playbook. The tablet […]
Courier, Thing of Beauty
On their own words: «Beautifully Crafted for your Mac.» I concur. The beauty of an amazingly simple interface. The website is stunning, too.
