International iPad iBookstores going live

As we near the official release date (May 28) of the 1st wave of international iPad distribution, Apple is preparing for the event. Reports form German (Macerkopf.de) and Italian (iPadevice.com) sites state that local iPad iBookstores haven begun to go live. It seems that, initially, only books (in english) from the Project Gutenberg are available and these are free.

Earlier today, Apple launched international iPad versions of the App Store. Though we already could buy iPad titles form the iTunes desktop client, the iPad App Store is a specific version of the App Store to be accessed only with an iPad. Interesting to note that Apple seems to have activated iPad App Stores in countries that are not included in the 1st wave of international releases. They’re even appearing in countries that still don’t have an official iPad launch date as is the case of Portugal.
